March at The Quay School: An Unforgettable Month of Learning, Fun, and Community

school march activities

March was a vibrant and exciting month at The Quay School, full with activities that brought students together through sports, reading, culture, and creativity. Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to!

Senior Hurling Team Shines at Mini 7s

Our senior hurling team displayed incredible skill and teamwork at the Cumann na mBunscol Mini 7s tournament in Castlebar. Well done to all players who participated and represented our school with great sportsmanship! 🏑

Their dedication and effort were inspiring, and we look forward to seeing them in action in future competitions.

Springtime Gardening Fun

Spring has officially arrived, and our students embraced the season with a gardening project. They cleaned up the planters, planted colorful flowers, and sowed spuds and onion sets. Gardening not only teaches patience and responsibility but also brightens up our school grounds.

A huge thank you to all our young gardeners for their hard work! 🌱

Maidin Caife – A Celebration of Irish Culture

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, our 6th class, along with Ms. Chambers, organized a successful Maidin Caife. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the Irish language and culture through music, storytelling, and traditional Irish treats. Go raibh maith agaibh! 🇮🇪

World Book Day Adventures

Reading took center stage as students from various classes visited Tertulia Bookshop to pick out new books using their World Book Day tokens.

Many students also came dressed as their favorite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life with creative costumes. From wizards and superheroes to fairy tale figures, the school was filled with literary magic!

Special thanks to Brid and Neil for their engaging activities and to Ms. Barrett for organizing a wonderful week of literacy events! 📖

In addition, students participated in shared reading sessions and book-themed crafts, further fostering their love for literature.

Irish Dancing Delight

Students from multiple classes had an absolute blast learning Irish dancing during Seachtain na Gaeilge. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing dance instructors Mary, Mary, Maureen, and Joe for sharing their talents with us. 🎶

The students not only learned new steps but also gained an appreciation for the cultural significance of Irish dance.

Exploring the Solar System

4th class took a deep dive into space! Each group researched a planet, created detailed PowerPoint presentations, and shared their findings with the class. From Jupiter’s storms to Saturn’s icy rings, their work was truly out of this world! 🌍

This project enhanced their research skills, teamwork, and digital literacy while making learning fun and interactive.

Bringing Books to the School Library

Our annual Bring a Book/Buy a Book event was a great success. Students donated books for our school library, helping to expand our collection for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to our 6th-class helpers for organizing the event! 📚

Encouraging students to share and explore different stories is a key part of fostering a reading culture within our school.

World Book Week Activities Continue

Throughout the month, students participated in engaging literacy activities. From shared reading sessions between Junior and 6th class to Active Walkway reading trails, the love for books was alive and well at The Quay School!

Each class contributed in their own unique way, making this year’s World Book Week one of the best yet.📚

March was a month full of energy, learning, and community spirit. We’re proud of all our students and staff for making these events so special. You can see all the photos in our gallery. Stay tuned for more exciting updates next month!
